The internationally famous pottery artist, Kim Doo-Seun started learning pottery fabrication from her age of 8 under guidance of her father, a Korean pottery artist who worked in Japan during the colonial period. By having done extensive pioneering research on the restoration of once-forgotten Korean style pottery, known as Bun-Cheong or "brown porcelain" for about 40 years, she became renowned as a best master of her rediscovered field.
Since then, she has attended invited exhibitions from Potters Association of Osaka, Japan, Chamber of Commerce in Hawaii, USA, Korean Embassy in United Kingdom and in USA, etc, and held about 60 international exhibitions so far.
She was awarded numerous prized and recognitions including Gold Medal at the Korea-Japan International Art Contest, First Prize at the Traditional Pottery Art Contest in Korea, Minister’s Prize at the Traditional Art Contest in Korea, First Prize at the Tokyo Art Contest in Japan, Presidential Commendation of Korean Government, etc.
In recent years, she is also participating in education. Now in her seventies, remembering her life in Japan in her earlier days, she offers summer learning camps for children of overseas Koreans at her own pottery, Searabealyo, which she founded and has operated for last 40 years.
