Beautiful hand carved Haida argillite three figure totem signed by artist Ed (Edmund) Calder (1900 - 1978).

This wonderful hand carved Argillite Haida First Nations three figure totem signed by the artist and master carver Ed Caulder on the base is in very nice condition given it's age.
There are no visible cracks, however it appears that the base of the totem may have been reglued at some point and there is also some minor chips to the edge of the base and also to the back edges of the totem. Overall the totem is in very nice presentable condition.
Ed Calder was primarily self-taught. While he worked in wood, he is best known for his argillite carvings. His argillite carving is characterized by stippling and rounded forms, and he mainly created model poles. He has several model poles in the permanent collection of UBC’s Museum of Anthropology.
Measurements are 4.25 inches in height x 1 inches in width.
The base measures 2 inches x 2 inches.
